Where He Wants Us To Go
Hello friends my name is Robert Gene Heard. I am a pastor, a son, a husband, a father, an entrepreneur,
an artist, a writer, an outdoors man and a photographer. Not too long ago I was also an employee, with very
little time to be a pastor, a father, a husband or a son, or to improve my skills as a photographer. Although
I am still quite young I am also recovering from a stroke that affected my right side. With high blood
pressure and severe migraines constantly interfering with my personal life as well as my job performance,
something needed to change.
Obviously, there are some things in my life where change was not an option. My family needs me, I need
them and we all need to seek and follow Gods will for our lives. If anything needed to change in these very
important pillars of my own life, it was that I needed to spend more time allowing God to strengthen my
relationship with them. This left us with only two other possibilities for change. I can continue to be an
employee punching a time clock and put my hobbies aside or I could turn my hobbies into a rewarding
career. There is an old saying- “One is truly blessed in life if they can do what they love, and love what they
do.”
I have a saying as well. It is what I have been teaching in churches for more than 15 years about faith. I
have learned through scripture that “Faith is having the courage to lift your foot up and allowing God to
place it where He wants you to go.” With plenty of prayer and discussion with my family and church, I
stepped out on faith and chose to rely on God’s strength and do what I love doing.
Welcome-
My name is Robert Gene Heard. I am a Pastor of the non-denominational
organization of the Open Door Ministries. My wife (Kimberley) and I have been
serving God together for more than 18 years.
Kimberley and I met in church in the spring of 1993. That year I surrendered my life
to Christ and unto His service. We started the ministry working with children and
teenagers. In children's church I taught the kids and she played the keyboard while we
sang and played games.
In 1994 we got married and began our ministry working primarily with teenagers. God
seemed to place us in churches where the youth groups were very small or even
nonexistent. The Lord sent us to a couple churches of different denominations to
work with these awesome kids. We are honored that God grew the kids groups by
leaps and bounds. In one instance our Sunday School class went from 3 to 45 in less
than 4 years.
We must and want to give credit where credit is due. God blessed these groups and
He alone gets the glory. We feel so blessed that God allowed us to just be a part it all.
The growth that we experienced in these youth groups was also a result of the kids
building a relationship with each other and with Christ, while at the same time they are
learning the Word of God. Soon they felt comfortable sharing the Gospel to rest of
their friends, while being confident in what they know. Activities were important, but
we made sure to focus on evangelism and discipleship.
We all need to seek and follow Gods will for our lives. There was a time when I
thought I was 10 foot tall and bullet proof when it came to things of the world. My
spiritual life on the hand was another story. I abused alcohol, I lusted, I lied and I
relied on the things of the world than the strength of Christ. I needed to spend more
time allowing God to strengthen my relationship with them.
I have a saying that I have been teaching in churches for more than 15 years about
faith. I have learned through scripture that “Faith is having the courage to lift your foot
up and allowing God to place it where He wants you to go.”
In the middle of 2012 my wife and I felt that God was calling us to a new and exciting
direction in the ministry, the mission fields. To fulfill this calling we had to step down
from the role of Senior Pastors and begin to seek Gods will for our lives as
Missionaries.
Although we have worked with Missionaries for many years, we had no idea where to
start. We felt that we needed to be apart of congregation that was committed to serving
the community and faithfully supported missions. Also, it was important to us to
become educated in missions and learn how to serve the Lord nationally and
internationally safely and effectively.
Our home church had to be a place that I could count on to be there for my wife and
kids if for some reason I have to go on a trip by myself. We prayed and visited many
churches looking to find where God was leading us.
There was no doubt when we joined Encounter Life Church in our community that we
had found what we were looking for. Because it is our new home,
I would like to invite you to join our Sunday services every week at 9:30am. We are
there to learn the Word and grow together. Click Here to learn more about our
service.
As for as our education in missions, that is never ending. We are attending mission
conferences, classes, training camps, language courses, and college classes. We are
doing everything we can do to prepare for our next adventures.
God has called us to the mission field and to help support other missionaries as well.
By using my photography skills and by teaching a discipleship course we able to raise
mission funding and awareness. For more on these areas click here.
We thank you for your prayers and support. If you are looking for a way to help us in
our calling, there is a list provided in the column to the right. You can give by donating
by using the button to the top right or by sending the items to us. Finally, one of the
coolest ways you can support all of the Missionaries on this site is just by taking the
advantage of the products and services highlighted in our MissionsMall.org.
Once again, thank you for your prayers and support. God Bless!
